ENTERPRISE EVALUATION:

I have found this module quite challenging and difficult. I found the lectures quite difficult to understand, but this might be because I had no knowledge of business and self employment and probably confused myself.. So the tasks we needed to do, some I found more challenging than others, but I think i managed to get some points together.

With the group presentation, I was quite excited of the thought of sorting a potential business out, as were the rest of the group. When talking in the group, I managed to get a better understanding of the PEST and SWOT models, as well as some other terms I was unsure about.
We got together regularly before the easter holidays to try and sort some of the presentations out, however I feel we wasted quite a lot of time finding a name.. which wasn't that important..
But, when we came up with 'fourhead' we stuck to it, and started looking more into the business side to things.
Sarah became the 'leader' of the group, so we were told what to go away and look at. This worked really well, and when we had collected all the relevant information, we were then able to sort out the presentation slides.
The area I was looking into was business insurance and the legal side to opening a business. Some parts I found quite interesting but I did get a bit bored towards the end.. so I looked into other areas too.

If we were able to go back and do it again, I would definitely not spend so much time thinking of a name and would try get organised with what everyone is doing more towards the beginning of the project.

We had a lot of information on the boards and we talked quite a lot, next time I think I will definitely think more about the key points (key information) that needs to be up on the boards, so the audience can see the figures in front of them.

For Enterprise Presentation

I went on Direct line website, and they advised several different insurances to take out for our specific needs in the business.

Simply Business: getting an insurance quote.. just went through the steps.. but couldn't get any further.. obviously, as it ain't real!

Below: How to get copyright protection.
What Bridget was saying in the lecture- posting work to yourself, so there is a stamped date on the work.. this will show when it was done.. also free.. well, ish.

You can also register online or by post. I found that it is cheaper online:
Current charges=
- £39.00 for 5 years
- £64.00 for 10 years

Places to get insurance quotes:

Professional Indemnity:

Sites I have looked at to get a better understanding on Professional Indemnity.

Notes on insurance:

Intellectual Property: Expression of an idea.
Professional Indemnity Insurance: Covers the cost if you give faulty advice or are negligent in your work and as a result you damage a clients business financially. The client may sue your business and the insurance would cover any compensation payments and legal expenses.
Business Contents Insurance: Pay for loss of, or damage to any business possessions whilst they are located within the business premises.
Public Liability Insurance: Provides cover against claims made by members of the public who have suffered injury or damage to property in connection with the business.
Employers Liability Insurance: Provides cover against claims by the employees who have suffered an injury or illness in the course of their employment.

We will need an accountant that will come in and sort out the money stuff..
Business link has given information to help you find the right accountant for the business. Gives you things to think about when looking for an accountant.

VAT- Standard 20% VAT on sales. (VAT= Value Added Tax)
Income Tax- Tax on personal income
Corporation Tax- Tax on the profits of a limited company

DESIGNERS & COMPANIES:

PUNCH CREATIVE

Someone I know uses this design company for their projects, they are a young group of designers, and from looking at their website, they are modern and say many of their briefs are under a tight deadline, so you have to work fast and effectively to get it done.

One of their strengths is branding and packaging, which is something I am very interested in. Small group of designers.. couldn't see an awful lot of work on the website, but what I have seen looks really good.

When I first saw what services they provide, I was pretty amazed. I am quite interested in looking into retail graphic design, and this would be the place to get a good idea of how it works and how they go about doing such large displays and graphic installations.

7nine

I really like the work that is showed on the website, from prints to web design.. they offer a range of services:

Branding, Advertising, Packaging, Signage, Copywriting, Print, Direct Mail

From Germany, love the work I have seen on the website...
Won't be able to travel there like though.. They have a large client list, some well known companies. Services include illustration and web design, which is something I would like to do.

From Leeds, they work for charity, voluntary, not- for-profit sectors. They do design for print, display and the web. I like how they work WITH the clients, sounds like they are in it for the right reasons..
